Cleaning Operative (Commercial Cleaning)
Sparrow Cleaning is recruiting a self-employed Cleaning Operative to look after Holy Trinity Church, Cuckfield and The Old School, Church Street, Cuckfield, West Sussex, RH17 5JZ. The role is early mornings, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 06:00 to 08:00, cleaning the church, halls, kitchen, washrooms and community spaces ready for services, groups and hirers. Paid at £14.50 per hour. Training, equipment and ongoing support are provided and previous cleaning experience is not essential. The planned first day is Tuesday 8 September 2026 and the start is flexible.
Sparrow Cleaning is recruiting one reliable Cleaning Operative to take responsibility for an established cleaning round covering Holy Trinity Church and The Old School in Cuckfield.
This is regular, ongoing work at the same two neighbouring sites, totalling 10 hours per week across five early mornings.
Getting the church and community spaces ready before the day begins
Holy Trinity Church and The Old School are busy community buildings used for worship, weddings, funerals, meetings, groups and private hires. The cleaning needs to be completed consistently before the day's activities begin.
You'll work through an established cleaning schedule covering areas across both buildings, including the church, halls and meeting rooms, kitchen, washrooms, entrances and shared community spaces.
You'll regularly work independently and become familiar with the buildings and their routine, so reliability, good communication and taking pride in the finished result are particularly important.
Growth has created an opportunity
Sparrow Cleaning has recently secured a new school cleaning contract, and the team member who currently looks after our Cuckfield sites is progressing into a supervisory role supporting the new contract.
As her responsibilities are changing, we're now looking for someone reliable to take over her established early-morning round at Holy Trinity Church and The Old School.
We're aiming for a handover on Tuesday 8 September, giving you the opportunity to work alongside the current cleaner, learn the buildings and go through the established routine together before taking responsibility for the round.

Early mornings, with the rest of your day free
The regular schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 06:00 to 08:00.
That's 10 hours of regular work each week across Holy Trinity Church and The Old School.
This role suits someone who is comfortable with early starts and weekend mornings and wants a predictable routine at the same location.

Please don't let that stop you applying. Previous cleaning experience is useful, but it isn't essential. Someone reliable with a good attitude who takes pride in their work can learn the cleaning routine. Reliability, communication and professionalism are much harder to teach.
